Are you a “Word Nerd?” Do you enjoy helping your students learn and use new words? Videolicious is an awesome FREE app to create short professional looking videos quickly and easily. This mini unit includes everything you need to help your students practice those weekly words by making a video. It also includes directions to place your videos into a book that can be saved in another free app called iBooks.
This unit can be used with any reading series with your weekly vocabulary word practice or it can be used when introducing new words to expand your students’ vocabulary. There are standards, rubrics, planning sheets, and demonstration videos included in this set. There are also student samples, photos, and explicit teaching directions. In the lessons students fill out vocabulary sheets to help with learning the word. They take pictures to represent their vocabulary word. They love using the *”Nerd Glasses” for this activity. (*movie theater glasses with the lenses punched out) They then take the photos and make them into a video and then into a book.
I love the book Word Nerds. Word Nerds was an inspiration for this product. If you have never read it I highly recommend it. It give lots of great ideas to help your students learn their weekly vocabulary words. I just took my idea to another level and incorporated technology into this vocabulary unit.

I just downloaded the Videolicious app and watched some tutorials. I am SO excited to use it with my second graders when school begins in August!

So excited to use your a few of my favorite things mini unit! I just recently downloaded Word Nerds on my Nook to read over the summer! I will definitely be checking out the videolicious app too.
The videolicious app is so fun. Your students will enjoy making all sorts of videos. You'll love the book Word Nerds. I've used a few ideas from it and my students really enjoy it.
